Malvern College champion Will Vanston is continuing to make fine strides in the indoor sport.
The unseeded 17-year-old pulled off the biggest win of his career against former junior champion Jonny Maltz in the National Schools Senior Championship at Queen’s Club.
The Malvern teenager lost narrowly to the eventual winner Chris Stout, of Cheltenham College, in the senior semi-finals.
Vanston took part in Malvern’s annual Neptune men’s challenge match, partnering Evesham’s Tom Bomford in a 3-1 defeat to Mike and James Bailey from Ledbury.
Vanston has been training with Bomford and Malvern College’s new rackets professional Noel Brett.
The school also staged the second Neptune British women’s challenge match in memory of former Malvern professional Ron Hughes.
Last year’s champions, Alex Garside and Alex Kurkjian, were narrowly defeated 3-2 by Sally Jones and Barbara Vincent.
Jones said: “The Malvern courts are now some of the best in the world so I’m really lucky to be training there.”
