MP welcomes £750,000 home building handout
12:00pm Thursday 23rd February 2012
A £750,000 payout is being provided to boost new home building in the Malvern Hills.
The New Homes Bonus is a national fund introduced by the coalition Government to reward local authorities for creating homes.
Payments increase with the number of new homes built in an area, and MP Harriett Baldwin this week welcomed the announcement that Malvern Hills District Council is set to receive a £750,000 windfall.
“The New Homes Bonus is an important scheme for encouraging responsible housing development to help provide homes for future generations,” she said.
“It provides a clear link between new development and local budgets.
“Under the previous government, every penny of incremental council tax from new homes went straight back to Whitehall.
“Local councils can now decide how best to use the money for local amenities and infrastructure and I welcome any plans which ensures that the whole community benefits from this fund.”
Malvern Hills District Council would not comment on the payout.
