STUDENTS and staff at two schools played their part in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the number of people simultaneously singing and signing a particular song.

Children from years seven and eight at Dyson Perrins CE Academy, in Yates Hay Road and 97 children and 14 adults at Madresfield CE Primary School joined thousands of others across the country in performing the song Sing to Sign at exactly 2.45pm on Wednesday, February 8.

It was held in conjunction with SignHealth, the healthcare charity for deaf people.

It was part of a bid to gather 130,000 children from across the UK to set a record for the largest number of people signing and singing at the same time.

Sarah Lancaster, who organised the event at Dysons, said: “As well as being a brilliant opportunity for the pupils to be part of, it was also an ideal way of raising awareness of the Sign Health charity for the hearing impaired.

“The school charity committee held a cake sale to raise funds for this and parents of the pupils participating were asked for voluntary donations.

“So far we have raised more than £200 and we hope to increase this further by selling a DVD of the event.”

The current record of 94,489 participants was set last year.

Madresfield pupils also raised about £150 and held an afterschool bring-and-buy cake sale.
