THE stage is set for Malvern to have its own dedicated live music festival this summer.

Plans are already well advanced for Malvern Rocks and the multi-venue event will take place from Friday to Sunday, August 3-5, offering the chance to hear the best local talent for free.

It will be launched at the Great Malvern Hotel and Mount Pleasant Hotel at 7.30pm on the Friday before spreading out across several venues in the town.

The festival promises to offer bands and artists of all ages and genres with a passion for performing from Malvern and the surrounding area, with the possibility of one or two better- known acts playing.

Organiser Kevin Tudge says the successful Worcester Music Festival has acted as an inspiration and the response so far suggests it could evolve into an annual event.

He said: “We have had a positive, overwhelming response from venues, musicians and live music fans.

Malvern has a vibrant music scene, yet has never had a live music festival of this kind. We looked at what Worcester Music Festival are doing and felt Malvern could have a similar event, yet it will very much be of its own kind with live bands and artists performing inside each venue.

“Due to extreme demand and limited slots available, we cannot promise everyone a slot but we will take a look at every application.”

The festival’s chosen charity is Acorns Children’s Hospice and there are plans to raffle prizes from local sports teams, celebrities and businesses.
