It’s a sailor’s life for these scouts and cubs

YOUNGSTERS from Newent enjoyed a weekend on the water messing about in boats.
Members of the 1st Newent Scout Group enjoyed a narrowboating weekend around the Midlands, where they worked together to navigate their boats along the canals as well as doing all the domestic chores associated with life on the water.
Sixteen Cubs and Scouts took part in total and spokesman Andrew Winterbotham said: “A fantastic time was had by all.”
The trip was one of a wide range of activities the group has undertaken in recent months.
As well as a visit to Newent Community School’s EcoLab, younger members in the group’s Beaver pack held a countryside sleepover weekend where they enjoyed games and a torchlit walk.
1st Newent is on the lookout for new adult volunteers to ensure it can keep up its current offering.
