Special brew will generate money for forces charity
1:30pm Saturday 28th January 2012

THE Ledbury brewer Bevisol is making a special cider to help the charity Help for Heroes, at the request of local serving members of the Armed Forces.
The Hereford’s Pilgrim Cider, produced by the Bromyard Road-based company, is now on sale throughout the UK.
A total of 10p from every bottle sold will be going to the forces charity, which was set up in 2007 to help wounded servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan or Iraq.
So far, about 20,000 bottles of the brew have been sold, raising £12,000 for Help for Heroes.
But Bevisol spokesman Chris Newall hopes to raise at least five times that much and make it an annual money earner.
He said: “We were approached by a few guys, members of the Armed Forces, who asked us if we could do something for Help for Heroes, so I thought, ‘We are in Herefordshire, so let’s make cider’.
“It will really go into the trade this year. We’ve put them in touch with Morrisons for national sales and also Wetherspoons and Matthew Clark, the wholesalers. They are big suppliers into the trade, especially pubs.
“Raising money like this means it is not just a one-off donation. It is something we can do year on year.”
Hereford’s Pilgrim Cider is classed as a medium cider, of five per cent ABV.
